Fluid governors; flnid relays.-A fluid governor comprises a piston 17 exposed on the underside to the fluid pressure of a pump &c. driven by the motor to be governed, and loaded on the upper side by a spring 19. The piston 17 controls ports 21 in a stationary member 20, the interior of which communicates through a port 26 and passage 27 in the rod 28 with the upper side of a larger piston 29. If the engine speed increases, the piston 17 is raised and pressure fluid passes from the pipe 2 through the ports 21, 26 and passage 27 to the upper side of the piston 29, which moves down against the action of the spring 19 and tends to clcse the throttle valve 31 and restore the piston 17 to its former position. If the engine speed decreases, the piston 17 descends until a groove 18 registers with the ports 21 and connects the upper side of the piston 29 to the exhaust pipe 15, enabling the spring 19 to raise the piston 29 and open the throttle valve. The tension of the spring 19 may be adjusted by means of the hand-wheel 30.
