167,960. Oldroyd & Sons, Ltd., M., and Beaumont, G. Aug. 7, 1920. Take-up motions.-The friction roll of a loom take-up mechanism is rotated alternatively " positively " or " negatively." In order to move the friction-roll positively, at one side of the loom, at the end of the shaft a<1> of the friction roll a, a worm-wheel g, Fig. 2, is connected detachably to the shaft a<1> by a spring plunger on a collar h, and the worm shaft l is similarly connected to a hand-wheel k by a plunger n. At the other side of the loom, the shaft a<1> carries a wheel o, Fig. 3, connected by gearing p, q, r to a ratchetwheel s; a part v is moved, for example, by an attachment to the lay sword, so as to move the catch t in a non-operative direction, and a spring w attached to the lever u moves it so as to rotate the wheel s, the friction roll a, and the cloth roll c, as in an ordinary negative take-up. When the positive take-up is in use, the catch t may be placed on a holder x; when the negative take-up is to be used, the catch t is removed from this holder, and the spring plunger is withdrawn from the worm-wheel g.
