Abstract
167,523. Bradley, H. E. April 1, 1920. Order apparatus. - A stopping and turning signalling-device for road vehicles consists of a casing 14, Fig. 5, the top and sides of which have large openings 20 normally covered by semaphore wings 21 which are swung outwards on hinges 23 to display the required indication " stop on the upper wing and arrows for turning to the right or left on the side wings. Each wing is swung outwards by means of a link 26 and a lever 27 pivoted to the core 32 of an electromagnet 33, and having the armature 34 of the electromagnet fastened to it. The wings are normally kept closed by spring-pressed plungers 35. The casing contains a lamp 17 which illuminates a number-plate 36 fastened below the casing ,and any signal wing that is swung outwards; its rear end is closed by a lens 16 to serve as a tail light. A partition 19 in the casing serves as a reflector. The switch mechanism for operating the wings, Fig. 7, is fixed to the steering-wheel casing 12. A lever 46 carrying a contact and a projecting knob 54 may be moved on to any one of three contacts 43, 42, 44. The scheme of circuits is shown in Fig. 3. A lamp 50 is provided in front of the driver which is lit when the contacts 63, 64 are closed by levers 27, and so indicates to the operator that one of the signal wings has been swung outwards.
