Abstract

167,240. Robson Machine Tool Co., Ltd., Townsend, G. S., and Cliffe, S. April 29, 1920. Combined turning, boring, and milling machines; boring-bar machines.-Relates to boring, facing, and milling-machines and comprises detail improvements in connection with the rotary tool-head 5 that is driven by a gear 7, secured to the flanged sleeve 4 to which the head is bolted, from a pinion 8 on a shaft 9 controlled by a change gear and clutches operated by rack-rods from concentric handles 19, 20. Change gearing in the same gear box (not shown) drives the feed shaft 16 through bevels 17, permitting hand control at 18, and a clutch 17a and a gear train 15, 13 drives a loose gear ring 12 meshing with a planet pinion 21 carried by the head and transmitting drive through worm gear 22 and reversing bevels 23 all carried by the head to the tool elide feed screw. The control lever 25 for the bevels may be actuated by hand or automatically by the tool slide through a dog rod 26. For heavy drives the usual central spindle 2 may be coupled to the tool head. Projections 27 on the toolhead provide for the attachment of milling- cutters.
