Abstract

166,115. Toronto Type Foundry Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Hitchcock, R.). July 3, 1920, [Convention date]. Sheet-separators; pile tables and supports.- Sheets are fed to printing, folding, or pasting machines from an adjustable sheet-supporting table formed of a number of pivoted sections, b<1>, b<2>, b<3>, b<4>, the sheets resting on this in banked condition and their front edges being supported by an inclined plate e arranged in front of a pair of feed and separating rolls f<1>, each of which is normally driven in a counterclockwise direction so that their adjacent peripheral surfaces move in opposite directions. The rollers f, f<1> are adjustable laterally on their shafts g, g<1>, and the driving gear of the roller f<1> can be moved out of gear and locked by a pin j<1> on a spring-controlled pivoted arm j, Fig. 9. The sections b<1>, b<2>, b<3>, b<4> are adjustable by means of racks c and gears fitted with handles d on shafts mounted in a tubular frame a. The front section b<1> of the pile table can be given a fine adjustment by means of screws and nuts l, l<1>, Fig. 9. The rollers f, f<1> are covered with india-rubber, and when the roller f<1> is rotating, it assists positively to keep the second sheet from being fed forward with the top one being separated, this arrangement being employed when glazed sheets are being dealt with. For ordinary sheets, the roller f<1> can be held fast on its shaft. The sheets pass from the rollers f, f<1> to angularly positioned horizontal forwarding-rollers i.
