Machine guns.-The ejection and loading openings are both provided with covers which are so connected that the cover for the loading opening is locked until the cover for the ejection opening is withdrawn. In a modification, the ejection opening cover is withdrawn by the cocking-slide. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the loading opening which normally receives the magazine, is closed when the magazine is removed, by a hinged cover 2 and the ejection opening at the side of the breech-body is closed by a sliding cover 18. The sliding cover 18 is adapted to lock the hinged cover 2 by engaging a depending arm 32, so that the gun cannot be loaded while the injection opening is closed. In a modification, Fig. 4, the cover 18 is retracted by a lug 38 on the cocking-slide.
