Abstract

Runners and friction blocks.-Relates to devices for climbing a single vertical or inclined rope or traversing an horizontal rope for use by painters, steeple-jacks, riggers, &c. and for lifesaving purposes. The rope 18 is gripped between endless chains 10, 11 mounted in frames 2, 3 which are connected by turnbuckle links and which support a seat for the operator. The sprockets 19, 20 around which the chains pass are driven through worm gearing when the crankhandles 23 are turned. Means are provided for tightening or slacking the turnbuckle links.
