Morse and like code signal transmitting arrangements.-In a code signalling-transmitter as described in the parent Specification means are provided for sending out a call prior to the despatch of a message and the multiple - position switch takes the form of a plug 86 used with a selector-board 84, Fig. 3. Clockwork 44 drives the shaft 35 through a suitable clutch 70, 71, the commutator drum being fast on the shaft 35 and revolving five times as fast as the distributing drum on a shaft 80 driven by gearing 78, 79 from the shaft 35. Part of the surface of the distributing drum is divided into five segments. In the second and fourth positions current passes to the call sign drum 37, in the third and fifth to the message drum 34 while in the first position current does not flow, but the mechanism gathers speed. The selector board comprises a number of sets of holes 85, each set having a common contact 87 for numerals and separate contacts 88 for letters. A call followed by a message is despatched by plugging in and then depressing a handle 46 to wind up the clockwork, the handle returning to its first position during the sending. The shaft 45 of the spring motor 44 drives the collinear shaft 58 by means of a pawl and ratchet 67, 52, Fig. 2, a bell-crank lever 53 engaging a recess 56 on a disc 57 on the shaft 58 and preventing the drive taking place till a cam projection 60 in the driving train forces back the lever, which is then held by means of a pawl 64 and catch 63 till a projection 59 trips the pawl and allows the spring 62. to pull the lever back to the locking position.
