Abstract
299,645. Johnson, N. G. Jan. 4, 1928. Driving.-In spring-driven talking and other apparatus having means for automatically winding up the spring before it has wholly run down, such means becoming inoperative when the spring is wound, a member driven slowly by the apparatus operates to control a switch in an electric winding-motor circuit. The electric motors drives the winding spindle d of the spring motor through spindles, c, c<1> and a spring- pressed coupling e, f. When the spring is sufficiently wound, two opposing V-teeth on the driven coupling plate e force back the driving coupling plate f, and the spindle d now rotates in the reverse, direction by the action of the wound spring so that a lug e<2> on the plate e engages and rocks a pivoted pawl which acts through pivoted levers and links j, k, l to open a switch o in the motor circuit, and also rocks another pawl into'position to arrest the lug e<2>. The spring motor now drives the machine and also a, spindle r so as to make one revolution whilst the spring runs down to the desired extent. This spindle carries two discs s, Fig. 4, with slots u through which a spring-mounted pin t extends, and at the end of a revolution the, pin engages a notch n<2> in, and lifts, a bar n connected through lever m with link l to close the switch o so that the electric motor is started, and the spring re-enga.<g>es the teeth on the coupling plates e, f. According to. the Provisional Specification, the armature spindle of the electric motor is movable longitudinally to declutch the drive to the spring motor.
