Abstract

163,587. Davies, E. W. May 6, 1920. Rolling.-The live rolls of mills are assisted in feeding work to the roll passes by vertically arranged feed rollers which may be associated with turning-over mechanism, or may themselves serve to effect this purpose. Pairs of driven feed rollers b<1>, Fig. 3, arranged in heads on either side of the work are operated by the usual pistonrods and may be associated with the turning-over mechanism described in Specifications 15117/14, 113,225 and 128,767. The rollers have cut-away portions b<3> to permit the action of the turning- over mechanism and are made in sections b<1>, b<2>, Fig. 4, the sections b<1> being free to move axially to accommodate themselves to varying shapes of work. The rolls may be shaped and grooved as shown in Fig. 5 to turn over the' work themselves with or without the assistance of a lever m.
