Faced bricks, blocks, and tiles.-In the manufacture of building-blocks and the like composed of pieces of stone, slag, brick, or other hard material held together by a cement-like binder, the mould is lined with a granular substance, such as sand, in which the hard objects are partly embedded before the binder is run in, so that they stand out in relief on the finished block. Part of the sand is taken up by the binder, and ornamental effects are produced by using suitably coloured material. The hard objects, if of unpleasing appearance, may be coated before use with the binding-agent, which may be, for example, a mixture of cement and fine sandstone.
