162,985. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, (Rotacar Co.). Aug. 10, 1920. Treadle mechanism. - A vehicle is provided with wheels 11, 12 carried by axles 13, 14. Oscillating pedals 30 on a countershaft 24 are bevel-geared to a driving- shaft 33, which transmits an oscillatory rotation to a bevelwheel 38 engaging a pair of bevel-wheels loosely mounted on the axle 14. These latter are provided with spring- pressed pawls 41 engaging ratchet-wheels 43 fast on the axle 14, and thus impart continuous rotation to the axle 14.
