Abstract

162,802. Williams, H. A. Feb. 5, 1920. Forced draught systems; baffles.-The waste gases from a crucible furnace are caused to pass through a liquid seal before escaping to the atmosphere. The tank 8 containing water or other liquid into which dips a baffle 10 may be integral with the furnace or separate therefrom. Liquid is supplied to the tank 8 through the tube 11 which also forms the exit for the gases. A float 13 provided with a spindle 12 graduated to correspend with readings on a pressure gauge 7 controls a suitable inlet valve for the liquid and maintains the liquid in the tank at the desired level. The cover of the crucible chamber 2 is luted in position and gas is supplied through a burner or nozzle 5 arranged tangentially.
