Fluid-actuated valves.-In a valve or regulator for controlling the air-supply to a boiler furnace in accordance with the boiler pressure, the pressure of the boiler 12 acts upon the liquid in a stand-pipe 11, the liquid rising until it enters an extension 9 arranged at a height corresponding to the pressure to be maintained. A subsequent small rise in pressure results in a comparatively large volume of liquid entering the extension 9 and displacing a corresponding volume of air or other gas which acts on the regulator and causes a rapid closing of the air-supply to the furnace. In the apparatus shown, the chamber or extension 9 is mounted on a tube 10 slid able in the stand pipe 11 so that it may be adjusted to a height corresponding to the pressure to be maintained. The air-regulator comprises a vessel 1 containing a bell 2 mounted over the end of the air-pipe 3 of the furnace 4, the air opening being controlled by the level of liquid contained in the vessel 1, which more or less closes the mouth of the ball 2. A pipe 6 connects the vessel 1 to a chamber containing liquid, the space above the liquid in this chamber being connected by a pipe 8, preferably of small section, to the chamber 9. The gas expelled from the chamber 9 forces liquid from the chamber 7 into the vessel and so tends to close the air-supply.
