Abstract
162,685. Ionides, A. C. June 18, 1920. Fluid speed indicators.-The rate of flow of a fluid is measured by a vane-wheel a mounted in a chamber b through which the fluid passes, the wheel being arranged to rotate a vessel j and disposed in an upper compartment of a fluid-tight casing. The vertical movements of the central portion of the liquid due to the rotation are transmitted by a weight o, rod n, and cord s<1> to a spindle s carrying a pointer t and provided with a pendent counterweight u. The weight o is guided by a fixed pin m and is counterbalanced by a counterweight r<2> suspended from a beam p connected by a cord r with the rod n. The fluid entering a chamber e passes through an opening controlled by a valve v to the vane chamber b and thence to the outlet conduit f. The whole of the mechanism may be enclosed in the casing, which may have a glazed opening to enable the indications to be read.
