Locks, permutation, for automobiles and cycles. -A permutation lock for the steering-gear of motor-cars and cycles has a bolt B in which the setting-rings D have internal flanges F of a width equal to the length of longitudinal movement of the bolt, so that the projections A<1> are never out of their respective rings. The projections are carried on a bar A which is pressed outwards by a spring C. The peripheries of the rings are lettered and numbered, and when the correct combination has beeu set, notches F<1> in the flanges F are opposite the projections A' on the bar A of the bolt, which is retracted by the spring L, Leaving the hole H and allowing the operation of the steering-gear. The combination is destroyed by random revolution of the rings D, when the inclined edges of the notches F' force the bar A and its rounded projection into the body of the bolt, allowing it to be shot by pressure without setting the combination, the projections springing up to engage with the forward faces of the flanges F when the bolt is in the position in which it locks the steering-column.
