Abstract

161,529. Le Royer, C. C. April 9, 1920, [Convention date]. Securing wheels on shafts.-Means for preventing unauthorized operation of mechanism as, for example, the steering mechanism of motor road vehicles, comprises a hub C, secured to the steering-column B, and provided with a flange a, a sleeve D secured to the steering-wheel A, a sleeve E secured in a nut H and adapted, when rotated on the flange a, to raise the steering-wheel sleeve D out of engagement with studs b, c in the flange a, and to be locked in its upper position by a combination ring device. When the sleeve D is raised, the lugs of a bolt Q are pressed into notches n, o in the sleeve, by springs l, m, thereby locking the sleeves D and E together. Unlocking is effected by turning rings I, J, K, L, to permit pins d, e, f, g to enter recesses h, i, j, k, therein so that the plate 0 may retract the lugs of the bolt Q, the spring P which moves the plate being stronger than the springs l, m. The sleeve E and nut H are secured by a screw 4, and, in addition, by a hollow bolt X when the sleeves D and E are locked. Movement of the plate 0 in unlocking the sleeves also presses the bolt X into a recess in the nut by means of a rod z. Numbered or lettered rings p, q, r, s are adapted to be secured to the locking rings in a number of different positions. The pins d, e, f, g, contact w ith small recesses in the looking rings to prevent recognition of the hole by groping for it.
