Abstract

161,235. Lawton, S. H. Dec. 6, 1919. Spindle apparatus for spinning or doubling yarn or the like on the bare spindle in ring frames, of the kind wherein a member controlled by the yarn is adapted frictionally or positively to engage the spindle or other rotating part and to be rotated thereby when the tension of the yarn is above the normal, comprises an arm which is pivotally mounted cn a support carried by the ring rail or spindle, and is operated by the tension of yarn so that a brake surface, tooth, or the like thereon is brought into engagement with the spindle, a member thereon, or the cop or pirn. In the arrangement illustrated in Fig. 1, an arm 5 pivotally mounted on a support carried by the ring rail 1C is provided with a friction surface 8 adapted to engage the bare spindle or the cop. In the arrangement illustrated in Fig. 6, the arm 15 is provided with a part 17 which positively engages with a member 18 on the spindle. The usual traveller 19 may be employed, or an eye, reciprocated by the rail 10, may be slidably mounted on the arm 15. The yarn may be threaded through a ring 30, Fig. 8, depending from the rail 10, and passed around a rod 26 pivotally mounted on a disc 21 on the spindle and provided with a tooth 28, or a friction member, which engages a boss 22 secured to the spindle.
