Recovering waste lubricants.-A centrifugal separator and purifier is combined with the endless oiling system of a land engine. In the device shown a pump d circulates oil from the usual reservoir c in the engine base through a pipe e and connections f, g, h to the bearings of a turbine a driving an electric generator b, and back by pipes i, j, k, any excess in the pipe e passing through a relief valve n to the reservoir. Oil is run off continuously from the reservoir, preferably from the bottom, by a pipe o to the top of a funnel p and into a centrifugal separator and purifier, such as that described in Specification 134,196. The .purified oil is discharged into a tank u and forced by a pump v through a pipe w to the reservoir. The oil may be purified in a batch by emptying the reservoir through the pipes o, y and separator t into the tank u, and after cleaning the reservoir and closing the valve z returning the oil by the pump v. An overflow pipe x from the reservoir to the tank u is provided. In a modified apparatus oil forced into the pipe e in excess of that taken by the bearings may be returned direct to the reservoir or passed to an overhead settling tank, the clarified oil being returned to the reservoir by an overflow pipe and the dirty oil from the bottom of the tank being passed through the separator and back to the reservoir. The separator, or the separator and settling tank may be cut out of the circuit.
