Abstract
159,840. Coninck, M. de. March 5, 1920, [Convention date]. Axial-flow type; regulating; leakage-preventing devices.-In a steam turbine wherein regulation is effected by 'valves 2 closing independent nozzles 3, the flow of steam from the active nozzles through the turbine is segregated by means of partitions and cellular packing. The steam from the nozzles 3 flows through rotor blades 5, 6 and then through fixed diffuser blades 8 into chambers 9 separated by partitions 24 and communicating with the nozzles 10 of the second pressure stage, the steam finally exhausting through fixed diffuser blades 15 to the condenser. To segregate the active steam, there are formed on those parts of the stator walls against which the rotor moves a large number of cells 17 in which leakage steam is trapped and loses its pressure. The cellular partitions may be formed by cylindrical and radial strips of sheet metal 19, 20, Figs. 4 and 5, slotted and fitted together as shown in Fig. 6, and secured to the stator walls by screws 22. Similar cellular structure 23 limit leakage at the periphery of the wheel.
