Abstract
159,298. Phillips, R. W. L., and Blaikie, J. R. Nov. 21, 1919. Ashes, collecting and removing.-Ashes &c. are discharged from furnaces into a duct which is flushed periodically by suddenly-released bodies of water. As shown in Fig. 2, ashes &c. are discharged through closure devices 3, 8 to shoots such as 5 leading to a duct 6 arranged beneath a series of furnaces. The duct 6 communicates with a reservoir 11, Fig. 1, to which water may be supplied from a condensing-plant. A counterbalanced weir 13, Fig. 3, hinged at 14 and adapted to assume normally a vertical position is arranged between the duct 6 and reservoir 11. When sufficient water accumulates in the reservoir, the weir 13 is tilted and water is discharged into the duct 6, the ashes &c. being swept into the pit 9.
