Abstract

159,010. Clarke, C. Nov. 18, 1919. Pins, dowel and like; nails.-Relates to fastenings for bolts to brickwork, to the ground, and to foundations, and for securing together beams and members of wooden framework generally, and consists in a tube A, Fig. 3, for insertion within a hole prepared in the brickwork, adapted to receive the bolt B of which the lower end is split by a central cut G so that when the bolt is struck the two parts B of the split end will be faced laterally by a wedge-shaped anvil H, so as to issue through apertures J in the tube into the interstices E of the brickwork D. Fig. 6 shows the bolt driven home into foundation material or the earth F, the appliance acting as a ground anchoring device. The timbers C, Fig. 1, may be united by inserting a tube into each, and employing a headless, double-ended bolt or rod B, the split ends of which will issue, when the timbers are pressed together, through the holes at the inner ends of the tubes and thus secure them together.
