Dental instruments; steel instruments with l o c a l reduced temper for adjustment.-In order to allow a steel instrument for dental or surgical purposes to be bent to suit different conditions, the temper is reduced at a convenient part of the shank and a coil or double coil may be formed in it at this point. Fig. 1 shows an instrument wherein the shank is integral with the handle and is of reduced temper between the points A, B. Fig. 4 shows a shank with a double coil and Fig. 7 a shank with a single coil. The limits between which the latter can be bent are shown by dotted lines. In a modified form, the shank is screwed to the handle.
