Abstract

158,453. Esterson, S. Dec. 29, 1919. Folding and partitioned trutaks and cases; lids; handles.-A collapsable trunk, travelling case, &c. has its sides and ends hinged to strips fixed to the bottom 1 so as to be folded inwards to a flat position, and is provided with a roll top or lid 7 sliding in grooves 8 in the ends and housed beneath the folded sides and ends in the collapsed condition. A separate space may be provided in which the top can slide, by means of a false bottom 9 and false back 10, the back 10 being hinged to the bottom 9 so as to fold beneath the sides and ends. In the erect condition the sides and ends are secured to one another, and the back 10 is secured to projections 4b on the ends; when folded, the back 10 rests on projections 12 on the end strips 4. A stop 13 prevents the top being pulled out of the grooves 8 and forms a watertight joint. The latch of the usual lock may engage a catch on the upper edge of the back 3a to secure the parts when collapsed, and a handle is provided on the side strip 2 for carrying the trunk when collapsed. According to the Provisional Specification, the false back may be removably fitted in guide slots in the ends of the trunk &c.
