Abstract

158,291. Round, H. J., and Ditcham, W. T. Aug. 19, 1919. Vapour and vacuum or low-pressure apparatus, arrangements of. - Relates to current-rectifying devices for use in wireless teLegraph transmitters employing thermionic valve or spark oscillators. Alternating current supplied through the transformer T is rectified by a valve R and smoothed out by a condenser L of large capacity, so that the leads O, O<1> serve as a source of direct current for an oscillator. According to the invention, a two-armed key or switch K, K<1>, which may be worked from the ordinary sending key, is so arranged as to break the circuits on the two sides of one of the terminals of the condenser L simultaneously, in order that the potential of the condenser may remain constant. The two arms of the key may be shunted by resistances A, A. in a modification, the arm K<1>' may break the primary circuit of the transformer, and in that case it may be shunted by a choke coil. In the modication shown in Fig. 3, the key is replaced by valves V, V<1>, which break circuit when the key k is closed. The key k operates relays C, C', which reverse the grid-potential of the valves V, V<1>, and so interrupt their plate currents.
