Abstract

158,285. Paumen, J. April 25, 1919. Self-driving machines. - A quantity of water circulates in a closed circuit, traversing an hydraulic turbine and an oscillating device comprising stepped shoots; the latter delivers the water from the outlet level of the turbine to a higher level. Fig. 1 shows the apparatus in elevation and Fig. 2 in plan. An oblique shaft 2 adapted to rock on knife-edges 5 and a footstep carries two lateral stepped series of boxes 1. each of which is connected with the next higher one on the other side of a tube 3 leaving at the bottom and entering at the top. The lowest boxes of the series are also connected by flexible pipes 52 with a vertical cylindrical distributing- valve 6 associated with tanks 50, and the highest boxes have delivery bits 7 over a head tank 8. Pipes 37<a>, 37<b> connect the head tank to the turbine, and a pipe 9 connects the latter to the distributing-valve. A by-pass 41 is also provided. The oblique rocking-shaft is geared to the distributing-valve and to a vertical shaft 32. The turbine is geared through mitres 70, 69 and a double wheel 26 to a fly-wheel 261, a governor, and a crank (not shown). The vertical shaft and the crank are connected by an arm 31 and a slotted lever. The governor controls throttle valves 37 and 38 in the turbine-supply and in the by-pass. Sectoral gearing 60, 59 connects the rocking shaft into lifting gear for hanging weights 57, 61.
