Abstract

158,281. Bilan, J. June 17, 1918. Infantry shields.-An oblong frame 11 having struck-up cross-bars 12 is fitted in with laths 13 pinned on the cross-bars, and thereover a padding of bullet-absorbing material 16 is secured by a sheet 14, which is attached to the frame. Posts 17 ending in spikes 18 to stick in the ground are on the frame and struts 20 are hinged to collars 21 thereon. The struts are made extensible and resilient, being formed of two threaded rods 23, 24 connected bv a screw-link 22, and of a spring 25. The bulletstopping material is wool, straw, cotton, or waste, and the shield so constructed constitutes a mattress or bed.
