Tanks.-A tank is built up from a series of similar flanged plate units P, Figs. 1, 3, and 4, similar flanged edge units E, Figs. 1, 3, and 7, and similar flanged corner units C, Figs. 1 and 3, fastened together by the flanges, the corners of the flanges being so shaped that definite gaps are pre. sented in all places where four corners of adjacent units meet, fluid-tight plugs or the like being used to stop the gaps. The gaps are utilized for securing the stay bolts 2, Fig. 1, a tight joint being made by means of glands 11 between the nut 10 and the gap. Other gaps are utilized for securing diagonal stay bolts B<2>, Fig. 9. For this purpose short Clevis bolts 14 adapted to make fluid-tight joints are inserted in some of the gaps. The heads of the Clevis bolts are provided with cylindrical or spherical seats for nuts 15 on the ends of the diagonal stays B<2>. Such openings as are not required for stays are closed by means of fluid-tight plugs.
