Abstract

157,165. St³ting, H. Jan. 8, 1921. Rolling.-In a universal rolling-machine with coplanar rolls, the roll housing and its spindlebox or gear-box are arranged separately in parallel planes os that they may be easily separated by axial movement. In one form, the spindlebox b carries spur wheels g driven from the driving pulley c through the bevel gearing shown in Fig. 1. The shafts d, f carry keys fitting into grooves in the bevel wheels so that by unscrewing the journal bearings h the shafts may be withdrawn and the bearing cross k together with the bevel wheels may be removed by detaching the cover l. The roll housing or stand, Fig. 2, which is adapted to be bolted at q to the spindle box, has bearings n carrying the roll shafts which are driven. by the spur wheels p engaging the spur wheels g on the spindle box. Exact centreing is ensured by the engagement of the hub of the base-plate in a hole in the front wall of the spindle box. A plurality of stands of rolls may be arranged side by side or one behind the other and in accordance with the shape of the passes the stands may be set up, alternately turned through 45‹ so that turning of the material is dispensed with. Alternative constructions of gearing permitting the separation of the spindle box from the roll housing are described.
