Abstract

156,727. Perry, L. D., (Representative of Perry, J. P.). Aug. 2, 1919, [Convention date]. Water-tube boilers; fusible plugs.-An annular water space between inner and outer shells 6, 7 is traversed radially by closed-ended tubes 22 which project into the fire-box inside the inner shell and into the flue space around the outer shell. The parts of the tubes between the shells are perforated. The gases pass from the top of the fire-box into the external flue through radial smoke-tubes 10, and after passing downwards through the flue escape through a central perforated pipe 31 in communication with an outlet flue 34 at the bottom of the boiler. A damper on the outlet flue may be controlled by a thermostat. A central water column 11 in the firebox opens into the space between the covers over the top of the shells through perforations 15. A vertical perforated pipe 17 in the top of the boiler is closed at its lower end by a fusible plug 19. A safety-valve 18 is fitted on the upper end of the perforated pipe. Water and fuel are supplied through pipes 39, 40 passing through lower watertubes.
