Abstract

Strainers having sheet straining-materials.- Apparatus, specially adapted for straining petrol in connection with carburettors, comprises a casing containing a gauze strainer h, Fig. 1, fixed on a central tube i, and overhanging a well d into which impurities fall and from which they are periodically discharged through apertures e. These apertures are normally closed by a ring f, held against its seating by a spring g or by a screwed nut, but they register with holes in the ring when the ring is rotated. With the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, the liquid flows downwards. For an upward flow the gauze strainer h<1>, Fig. 2, is fitted with a tube k which it covers so as practically to fill the interior of the casing. The filter may be fitted with a tap in place of one of the unions c.
