Abstract

156,232. Optische Werke G. Rodenstock, and Auspitzer, A. J. May 28, 1918, [Convention date]. Sights and methods of sighting.-Consists in a training indicator for use in the indirect laying of guns and mine-throwers, comprising a pointer connected by a flexible shaft to a part anchored to the ground, thus giving a fixed datum line, and a graduated disc connected to a part which rotates with the gun in training. The construction shown comprises a casing 3, keyed to an arm 1 projecting from a part of the gun-carriage which rotates in training, containing a graduated disc 5 which can be fixed to the casing by a screw 6 and a relatively rotating graduated disc 8 connected by a flexible shaft 10 to a disc 11 in a casing 13 anchored to the ground. The disc 11 can be adjusted in the casing 13 and clamped by a nut 16. A pointer 9 can be adjusted over the disc 8 and then clamped to it by a screw. The pointer may be provided with a sight. In use, the pointer is adjusted on the disc 8 either by scale or by sighting on an aiming point, and is then clamped to the disc; the gun is then trained until the pointer registers with the required graduation on the disc 5. To correct for inclined trunnion axis, an adjustable level 20, Figs. 2 and 3, is adapted when set level to rotate the disc 5 relatively to the casing 3 by means of a lever 26.
