Abstract

Both the main winding (11) and the starting winding (10) of a single-phase induction motor can be connected via a pneumatically operated rotary switch (12) to the terminals (14, 20) of an AC voltage source. The rotary switch (12) has six stationary contacts (1-6) and a rotating element with eight contacts which are connected to one another in the manner shown. Whenever the rotating element of the switch (12) is operated, said rotating element is rotated through 90 DEG . When the rotating element is in the position shown, the motor runs in the one rotation direction. In order to start the motor again once it has been stopped, the rotating element of the switch (12) is rotated through 90 DEG with respect to the position shown, as a result of which a connection is produced via the rotating element between the stationary contacts 1 and 4, 2 and 6, and 3 and 5. The interchanging of the connection of the starting winding (10) which is produced in this way results in the rotation direction of the motor reversing. The motor is preferably used for driving a refuse-disposal device. <IMAGE>
