Abstract
155,199. Coleman, R. B. Dec. 8, 1919, [Convention date]. Bicycles; saddle supports.-In cycles, and more particularly motor-cycles, in order to reduce vibration due to the transmission of the drive, the frame is formed on each side with members 6 which converge towards the rear and are disposed above and below the line of the transmission, the rear ends of these members being pivoted to the front arms 13 of an axle-carrying block 11. The backwardly-extending arms 13 of this block are pivoted to a member 15 which at its upper end is pivoted to an horizontal member 18 in turn pivoted to an extension 19 of the rear stay of the main frame, transverse connexions 20 between the two sides being provided at the front and rear ends of the member 18. The seat 24 is carried by a duplicated triangular framework 21 pivoted at 22 to the top bars 6 and at 23 to the extensions 19. A fuel tank may be carried as at 25, and preferably has a passage 26 for directing air on to the engine. Instead of being formed of rods or tubes, the frame may be constructed of sheet-metal parts. Spring devices.-The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a front fork construction wherein the front-wheel axle 35 is mounted in a fork 31 which is pivoted at its lower end 32 to the rigid fork limbs 30 and is stayed as at 36 to the laminated spring or resilient extension 29<A> of a plate 29 connected to the upper ends of the limbs 30. The plate is integral with or secured to a stem, about which the head is mounted by ball bearings. At its upper end the fork 31 is formed with a cam adapted to rock slightly forwardly and backwardly about a seating upon the stem. The handle-bars are mounted on the plate 29 by stems 30<A>. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
