Abstract

154,911. Kolko, A. July 19, 1918, [Convention date]. Right to Patent relinquished. Spray carburettors.-The carburettor comprises an upper and a lower part connected by a pipe of small diameter, the lower part consisting of a float feed tank, Fig. 2, which may be disposed at any point relatively to the engine, and is adapted to supply a rich mixture to the upper part, which consists of a device, Fig. 3, for mixing additional air with the rich mixture and delivering the product to the engine. The float feed tank 1, which may be fed from the supply tank by gravity, is provided with an annular fuel inlet 4 controlled by a poppet valve 5 connected by a universal joint 7 to the float 6. A tube 9, open at the bottom to the atmosphere, projects centrally into the float chamber, and is surrounded by a sleeve 14 carried by a tube 10 connected at the upper end to the pipe c leading to the ether part of the apparatus. The tubes 9, 10 are provided with conical portions 11, 12 which together form a Venturi tube, and a space 13 forming a fuel nozzle is left between the ends of the tubes, fuel being supplied thereto through the annular passage 15 between the sleeve 14 and tube 9. The tube 10 may be adjusted to vary the size of the nozzle 13, by rotating a head 17 attached to a sleeve 16 provided with differential screwthreads on its inner and outer surfaces. Under engine suction, air and fuel are drawn in through the tube 9 and the nozzle 13 respectively, and the mixture passes through the pipe c to an ejector 19, 20, 21 disposed in the air inlet b of the other part of the apparatus. The rich mixture is diluted with air drawn through and around the ejector, and passes to the heated outlet 33 through a throttle consisting of a movable part 22 and a stationary part 23. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), an unobstructed slow-running pipe 24 is provided and the parts 22, 23 are provided with tapered ribs 25, 27 forming a hit-and-miss device. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
