Abstract
Sulphide ores of lead and zinc are treated with sulphuric acid containing free sulphur trioxide or with sulphur trioxide in the gaseous form to convert the lead &c. into sulphates while the zinc remains in the form of sulphide. The lead sulphate is separated from the zinc sulphide, for instance by flotation. Silver sulphate may be separated from lead sulphate by treatment with water. Cadmium and bismuth, if present, are converted into sulphates which are readily separated from lead sulphate.
