Abstract

154,660. Staines, F., and Staines Kitchen Equipment Co. July 31, 1919. Mops etc.; pads etc.; squeegees; mop &c. wringers. - A cleaning-device for hand use, or combined with a handle, is composed of a number of pieces of absorbent material having strips of rubber &c., which on one working face contact with the surface to be cleaned and relieve the absorbent material of wear while on the other side, utilized for final cleaning, they lie within the working face. Channels in the working edge of the rubber permit water to pass to the absorbent material. As shown in Fig. 2, pieces of felt a, and rubber strips c, c<2>, c<3> (of which strips c, c<2> contact on one side with the surface to be cleaned) are loosely mounted on rods a<1>, the longitudinal movement on the rods, assisted by grooves in the working edges of the strips c, c<2>, permitting ready passage of the water to the felt a. The felt may be squeezed in known manner by drawing 'the plate b, by means of the rods a' and links e, towards a frame d. The hand device shown in plan in Fig. 4, comprising felt strips f and rubber strips f<2>, the latter perforated if desired, is surrounded by a wire clip f<3> and may have internal horizontal rubber strips to prevent the moisture from passing from one side to the other.
