Abstract

1485414 Self-wringing and other mops; pads M R COLEBROOK 16 May 1975 [22 June 1974] 27830/74 Heading A4F A device for removing liquid from a surface includes an element 1 of liquid absorbent material, e.g. natural or artificial sponge or foam rubber, having an inner stiffener or bearing member 1A and a readily mountable and removable covering 11 of permeable material, e.g. towelling, felt, chamois leather, or natural or synthetic cloth. The element 1 may be cylindrical or of a cross-section which is hexagonal, square with rounded corners, or oval. In the device illustrated in Fig. 1, the element 1 is rotatably mounted on a rod 3 having a handle 4, and may be squeezed between end-plates 5, 6, to expel collected liquid, the plate 6 being movable towards the plate 5. The member 1A may be a rubber hose perforated so that liquid can be drained from the element 1 into the hose. In a further embodiment, the element 1 is mounted in a base (15), Fig. 3 (not shown) having a handle (16). The squeeze mop illustrated in Fig. 5 comprises two devices 20, 21, constructed in accordance with the invention, mounted on plates 24, 25 hinged together, a lever 36 pivoted to the mop handle 23 being movable to actuate a link 37 to squeeze the devices 20, 21 together. Alternatively the lever mechanism may be replaced by a sleeve slidable upon the handle and operating linkage performing the squeezing operation.
