Picking-motions; shuttles; beat-up motions. -Relates to picking-mechanism of the type wherein shuttle-arms are moved towards each other through the shed, and the shuttle is handed from one shuttlearm to the other when these meet, the shuttlearms then retiring from the shed. The shuttle has lower parts 97, Figs. 3 and 8, whereby it may be supported by small rods 77 on shuttle-carriers on arms 76, which are fixed to slideblocks 70. The arms are reciprocated to and away from the centre of the loom, the slide-blocks moving in a slide in a transversely-extending guide, by toothed wheels 72, which are recipro. cated by rods 74 and engage fixed racks 68 and racks 71 on the slide-blocks, the rods 74 being pivoted at 75 to rotating wheels 16 or to cranks. The arms 76 are provided with cams 91 rotated by bevel-gearing 89, 88 from squared rotating shafts 87, on which slide the gears 88 secured to the arms 76. The cams operate lever-mechanism 93, 94, whereby forked rods 78 are so operated as to hand over the shuttle from one carrier to the other at the centre of the loom, by engagement with projections 98, 99 on the shuttle as shown in Figs. 10 ... 12. The weft issues through a guide 116 from a bobbin-box 96 in the shuttle. The arms 76 are provided with beating-up mechanism comprising blades 102, rollers 106, and cams as described in Specification 154,617. Specification 143,555 also is referred to.
