Abstract

154,419. Harvey & Co., M., and Cubley, H. Nov. 1, 1919. Bits.-A short piece of stranded steel or other wire cable 3 is used as a substitute for the usual chain in rubber mouthpieces. The ends of the cable-piece are secured to the cheeks 2 preferably by bending clip-pieces 5, Fig. 6, round the cheeks and securing these on the cable-piece by ferrules 8. The cable-piece is divided from a long length by an acetylene flame which welds together the ends of the wire strands and forms a slight enlargement 4. The clips, cable piece, and parts of the cheeks are covered with rubber which is vulcanized.
