154,125. Liddle, J., (Quality Doughnut Shops Co.). April 9, 1920. Frying-ranges. - In an automatic frying- apparatus, a plurality of conveyers carry articles of food through a tank of molten grease. As shown, grease in a tank 20, Fig. 3, is kept molten by gas-burners 12. Dough portions for making dough-nuts are fed through a hopper to the upper surface of a conveyer 27. Fixed side plates prevent the portions leaving the conveyer and carrier blades 33 on the conveyer deliver the portions to the underside of a second conveyer 40. This conveyer immerses the dough-nuts and delivers to a third conveyer 53 which delivers to a shoot 55. The speed of the conveyers is regulated in accordance with the temperature of the grease by co-operating cones 64, 65, Fig. 1, gripping a belt 72 between them. The belt passes over a pulley, which may be traversed along a screwthread 74 for varying the relative speeds of the cones. The conveyer 40 is wider than the distance between its chains, these being connected by bent members 46, Fig. 4, secured to transverse members on the conveyer. For adjusting the tension of the conveyer 53, one pair of its sprocket wheels 56 is mounted on movable brackets 57 adjustably controlled by arms 58. The conveyer 40 is similarly adjusted, and is depressed adjacent to its adjusting-sprockets by pins 48 mounted on a frame 25. This frame is removable from the tank, and supports the whole conveyer system.
