153,714. Poumier, R. Sept. 1, 1919. Recovering fats and oils from waste waters. - Apparatus for separating fats and oils from waste waters comprises inlet, settling, and outlet chambers 10, 3, 4, 11, and inlets or outlets 12, 13 all arranged symmetrically about central partitions 5, 14 so that the liquid may be passed through in either direction; there is also provided an opening in the top of the partition 14 to permit the water to pass directly from inlet to outlet in case of obstruction, and the whole device is so shaped and fitted as to be readily cleaned and provide as little lodgment for solids as possible. Water entering by say the pipe 12 passes through removable grids 24 placed on the ledges 23 of the inlet chamber only, flows through an opening 16 in a transverse partition 18 to the settling chamber 3, through an opening 6 in the lower end of the partition 5 to the settling chamber 4, and by an opening 17 in the partition 18 to the outlet chamber 11 and pipe 13. Sediment falls into removable buckets 7 supported by inclined flanges fitting closely on ledges 8, and the fat rises to the surface and there forms a cake beneath which the water flows from inlet 12 to outlet 13 in case of choking of the apparatus.
