Abstract

1536498 Battery cell IMATRA-PARISTO OY 10 March 1976 [11 March 1975] 09558/76 Heading H1B A battery cell comprising a positive and a negative electrode layer, a positive current collector 4, a negative current collector 5, two plastic foils 6 and 7, functioning as an envelope for the cell, a separator 8 between the positive and negative electrode layers wherein the separator 8 is fixed by heat sealing to at least one of the plastic foils 6 or 7. The plastic foil material may be a laminate having a polyamide outer layer and a polyethylene inner layer, the separator may be formed from porous polyethylene or a polypropylene fibre web. Alternatively the separator may be constructed to have a heat sealable circumferential edge layer 81, e.g. polyethylene and at least one central actual separator layer 82, e.g. non-woven polypropylene or polyamide or may have two central actual separator layers 82 and 83 having an intermediate layer of porous material 84, e.g. cellulose or rayon fibres. The positive current collector may be a nickel plated sheet which is contained in a graphite, manganese dioxide mix moistened with KOH, the negative current collector may comprise copper wires which are contained in powder mix comprising zinc. The cell may be a primary or secondary cell, may be prepared in the form of a button cell and a plurality of such cells may be arranged to form a battery.
