Abstract
1536356 Incinerators ATLAS AS 13 July 1976 [14 July 1975] 29021/76 Heading F4B In a furnace for incinerating solid and liquid waste comprising a first chamber 10 provided with a burner 12 for liquid waste and a second chamber 20 having a grate 22 for solid waste and wherein the two chambers 10 and 20 are interconnected by a duct system, solid waste within the second chamber 20 is heated and incinerated by hot combustion products from the first chamber 10, said combustion products being returned to said first chamber through a damper controlled duct 48 with the aid of an ejector 52 provided in said return duct 48. The combustion products finally leaving chamber 10 are subjected to secondary combustion in a chamber 16 before being discharged to a flue (not shown) through outlet 18. The combustion products, together with additional combustion air, leaving chamber 10 are conveyed to a space 40 at one side of chamber 20 through a damper controlled duct 36 and from there to a space 44 beneath the grate and a space 46 at the other side of said chamber 20. As shown, the entire furnace is surrounded by an air casing 28 supplied by a blower 30. Primary combustion air is supplied to chamber 10 through ducts 32 and secondary combustion air to chamber 16 through ducts 34. Additional combustion or cooling air may be introduced into chamber 20 through a duct 42. All the air required for combustion purposes and for operation of the ejector 52 is derived from the air casing 28. The air supply to the various parts of the furnace is independently controllable with the aid of dampers. Solid waste is introduced in chamber 20 through an opening 26 normally closed by a hatch 24. If necessary additional liquid fuel may be supplied to burner 12.
