Abstract

1535526 Mixing fluids in flow TII CORP 26 Nov 1975 [9 Dec 1974] 17869/78 Divided out of 1535525 Heading B1C A process for the treatment of a fluid by a treating fluid comprises supplying the fluid having a Reynolds number of at least 3000 through a flow pipe which has a disturbance causing device therein in the form of an orifice plate 224 and vena contracta of the flow of fluid through the orifice being at a distance of 0.25 to 0.5 pipe diameters from the orifice plate and the diameter of the orifice ranging from 0.7 to 0.9 of the diameter of the flow pipe and introducing the treating fluid through an injection nozzle 226 into the flow pipe. The injection nozzle has a tip 232 which is located within the vena contracter, the treating fluid flowing through the tip into the fluid supplied through the flow pipe. The vena contracta should be situated from 0.36 to 0.39 pipe diameters from the orifice plate. A downstream turbulence device may be located at a distance of at least 25 pipe diameters from the first mentioned turbulence device.
