Abstract

1533846 Cleaning wire or strip PARAMEC CHEMICALS Ltd 5 Dec 1975 [28 Nov 1974] 51642/74 Heading C7E Apparatus for treating material in continuous lengths comprises a first passageway 7 having a material inlet 8 and a material outlet 10; a further passageway 12 in communication with the passageway 7 to supply fluid thereto, the axis of passageway 12 being at less than 90 degrees to that of passageway 7 thereby to direct fluid-flow toward inlet 8, and means at or adjacent the outlet for limiting movement of fluid therethrough, the first passageway 7 containing, in the absence of material to be treated, no restriction to the flow of fluid therealong from passage 12 to inlet 8. Said means may comprise a constriction in passage 7, as shown. Valve 15 may be provided in passage 12 to regulate flow of fluid, which may be air, steam, or a liquid. In an example, a wire is coated in a CuSO 4 bath, and the apparatus uses air to remove drag-out from the wire. The passage 7 may have replaceable wearresistant liners, e.g. of WC, at its ends.
