Abstract

1535527 Treating ammonia containing effluent TII CORP 26 Nov 1975 [9 Dec 1974] 17870/78 Divided out of 1535525 Heading C1C A process for treating ammonia containing effluent, comprises feeding secondary treatment effluent from a waste treatment plant via a conduit to a packed bed of a nitrification tower, mixing said secondary treatment effluent within said conduit by flowing said effluent therein through a turbulence causing means, said turbulence causing means taking the form of a flat plate orifice which effects a vena contracta portion in said effluent at a region thereof of from substantially 0À25 to substantially 0.50 conduit diameter downstream of said flat plate orifice, said flat plate orifice having an orifice diameter of from substantially 0À7 to substantially 0.9 conduit diameters, and introducing oxygen into said effluent within said conduit to aerate said effluent, said oxygen being supplied through an injection nozzle having a tip, said tip being located in said vena contracta portion to mix said oxygen thereat with said effluent.
