Abstract

1535409 Master alloy powder for making sintered alloy steel FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 25 Sept 1976 39893/76 Heading C7A A master alloy powder for blending with Fe powder in making sintered alloy steel contains in weight per cent; 30-75Mn, 5-30Ni, 0-18Cr, 0-15Mo, 0-40Fe, 0-14Cu, with 5-15Mo when Cu is absent. The powder has a liquidus of 1700- 2300‹F and a melting range of not more than 350‹F. The master alloy may also contain 1-5Si and/or 0À2-1À5 rare earths, the total Si and/or rare earth being 5 maximum. The powder is preferably formed by inert gas atomization of a melt and sintered steel is made by mixing 0À25-6% of the master alloy powder with an iron base powder and optionally graphite and alloying elements and liquid phase sintering at 2050-2250‹F.
