Abstract

1535241 Thermal conversion of starch slurries BRITISH INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS Ltd 5 July 1977 [9 July 1976] 28588/76 Heading C3U Starch solutions are made by forming a slurry of raw starch in water, adding an aminoformaldehyde resin and oxidizing agent and subjecting the slurry to mechanical agitation at 110-180‹ C. The resin is preferably ureaformaldehyde, the oxidizing agent is hydrogen peroxide and a catalyst or sodium or potassium persulphate and a catalyst, the catalyst preferably being copper sulphate. The treated starch solution may then be pH adjusted with sodium hydroxide.
