Abstract

1534324 Copolymers of acrylonitrile BAYER AG 26 Oct 1976 [27 Oct 1975 (2)] 44385/76 Heading C3P A copolymer comprises at least 65% by weight of units derived from acrylonitrile, 1 to 20% by weight of units derived from a monomer of the formula where R is H or CH 3 , n is 0 to 5 and 0À1 to 7% by weight of units derived from a monomer of the formula where R<SP>1</SP> is a C 1 -C 10 alkyl group. In the examples acrylonitrile is copolymerized with acrylamide, and the methyl ether of N-methylol acrylamide or the isopropyl or butyl ether of N- methylol methacrylamide and in Example 3 also with methylacrylate and in Example 4 methylacrylate and sodium methallylsulphonate. Filaments and fibres are produced from dimethyl formamide solutions of the copolymers crosslinked by heating or acid treatment.
